Comforters Buying and care-Guide

Comforters and comforter sets are one of the easiest and least expensive ways to redecorate a bedroom. They add color, pattern, and interest to a room as well as provide layers of insulating warmth. While you may want to keep a few technical points about comforter and comforter sets in mind before you buy, the most important things to consider are your personal tastes and decorating style.

More details

What Size Comforter Do I Need?

The first question is to decide how large of a comforter you want. You can buy comforters are available for twin, full, queen, king or California king beds, However some comforters are sized Full/Queen or King/California King. Some people, however, like to buy comforters bigger than their beds, especially if they have a twin bed. Why? Comforters are often called to duty in other places besides the bed, like a couch or a floor when you are watching TV or reading. Many kids love to grab all their comforters and blankets and cuddle up in the den and watch T.V.

Synthetic or Down Comforter?

The big decision involves whether you buy a comforter that is filled with all-natural down or is filled with a synthetic material. Down is the under-layer of soft feathers found on birds. Down comforters can be filled completely with 100% down, or they can be filled with a combination of down and less soft feathers.

However, as a result of advances in production and manufacturing techniques you can get a quality synthetic pillow that feels similar to down at a fraction of the price of what down sells for.

Why The Broad Ranges in Comforter Prices?

Comforter and comforter set prices do come in a variety of price ranges.  Both within down or synthetic comforter categories, prices can vary.  Comforter price ranges are wide and range from about $50 to over $ 1000.

The differences in price ranges can be attributed to several factors.  In addition to the down vs. synthetic fill issues, fabric covering and thread counts, detailing, embroidery stitching ruffles, and contrast buttons may contribute to the variations in comforter/comforter set price points. Nonetheless, for $ 100 to $ 300 you can purchase a well made comforter or comforter set. Comforter sets include coordinated items to make the whole bed like shams, bed skirts, pillows and neck rolls.

We generally spend 6-10 hours a day in our bedrooms and recommend that you choose a comforter that helps you express yourself. Some ideas to consider:

  • A beautiful soft white or  beige damask  or matelasse that creates a great romantic image
  • A casual neutral  twill or micro suede that goes with anything and is highly versatile
  • A hot colored or animal print  comforter to express the excitement in your personality
  • A more traditional embroidery or print to create a calm and quieting mood.

You cannot just choose your comforter in a vacuum. The rugs, window treatments and sheets  hold all are chosen to help create the room you want. Don’ t be afraid to provide variety by changing your comforter for a season, event or just because the mood strikes you.
